Follow up pts
Hey guys, Im on my musculo prac at the moment at Bentley outpts department. It has been a scary and very full on week but I am enjoying it! Being our first week the majority of my pts have been follow ups from the students who just finished the placement. In a way this has been good as it has sort of eased me into the placement as generally you just continue with what the previous treatment has focused on. Our supervisor and CCT have told us that they would prefer it if we assessed and treat the pt in the same way that the last student did for at least the first session so that a)the pt isnt overloaded with infotmation and confused by new treatment techniques and b) so that the pt dosn't think that we think that what the last student was doing was incorrect or not effective. I can completley understand the logic behind this however I am finding it hard to get a good understanding of the pt's whoke presentation and deciding where I actually want to go with this pt in terms of treatment goals as the examination/treatment that I am performing (at least on the first appointment) is so limited. I just find it quite fustrating that because the prac is so short you may only see the pt twice over the whole four weeks and just when your starting to get to know them/their Mx plan you have to pass them on to a new student! Must also be quite fustrating for the pt too swapping physios so often! Anyways I guess this cant be helped..just wanted to see what everyone else thought!
